Description

Rav Yechezkel once asked the Chazon Ish why he wasted so much time answering questions about trivial matters. Since Klal Yisrael had such great need of the merit of his Torah study, why waste his time on such questions?
The Chazon Ish explained that he only answered questions concerning shalom bayis, which is so important that Hashem’s Name is erased for it.
“But you answer on a daily basis such questions as what kind of store to open, or on which floor to buy an apartment,” Rav Yechezkel protested.
The Chazon Ish then explained.
“Why would anyone come to me and open his heart about all his problems at home? It takes me a year or two of answering ordinary questions to make him feel heimish (comfortable) with me, and only then will he be willing to share with me his problems in shalom bayis. Only then can I help him.”

Rav Shlomo Hoffman zt”l was a student of the Chevron Yeshiva seventy to eighty years ago. He was among those who established a close connection with Rav Isaac Sher zt”l, and merited to receive from him guidance in avodas Hashem, the understanding of the human nefesh, and the foundations of man’s purpose in this world.

Throughout his life, from a young age until his passing on Purim 5773, Rav Hoffman aided those who were in need of professional mental health counseling. Gedolei Yisrael (foremost among them Rav Shach zt”l), Roshei Yeshiva, and school principals were greatly assisted by Rav Hoffman’s advice and wisdom.

In the last thirty years of his life, he agreed to the request of bnei Torah to give vaadim (private lectures) to small groups and individuals; these vaadim were eventually organized and published under the title, Sichos im HaRav Shlomo Hoffman. This second volume in the series deals with shidduchim and shalom bayis.

The responses received from across the Jewish world have been phenomenal. Parents and educators, young and old, Torah scholars and laymen, mental health professionals and counselors — all enjoy the unique depth of wisdom that Rav Shlomo has to share. Many commented that the sefer changed their outlook on life.

Now the English-speaking public can also be part of the amazing influence this series has had across the Torah world. Read and discover… the Secrets of the Soul.
