Description

Teachers and parents of young children know how profound and intelligent preschoolers can be.  Even at a tender age, children wonder about the world around them, and often ask deep questions that adults may struggle to answer!

The Invisible Book presents a fascinating reality for children and the grown ups to ponder together:  it explores the fact that although something may not be seen, it can be very real.

The bright, contemporary illustrations portray a young boy and his mother spending the day together in the city.  Along the way, he encounters many unseen entities.  Air, electricity, magnetism, thoughts, and feelings all fall into this category.

The climax of The Invisible Book reveals the most important invisible realities of all:  our neshama, and, of course, Hashem Himself!

Great book. Teaches a deep concept in a very simple way that small children can understand.

  2. Jewish Book World Magazine

As a boy and his mother run errands through town, he notes that many things cannot be seen, even though he knows they are there, including air, electricity, gravity, and wind. “Feelings can’t be seen, but they are real.” Thoughts, including the boy’s bubbled musings about pizza, his goldfish and giving charity, are on the list, as well as magnetism, voices, sounds, and smells. The two most important invisible things, the neshama (soul) and Hashem (God) complete the list. A simple rhyme scheme and colorful, but unsophisticated illustrations make this a pleasant book for very young readers who often ask philosophical questions about things they cannot see. While there is a build up describing God, there is no discussion of the soul. The Hebrew words are neither explained nor defined, and the illustrations depict only the Orthodox style of dress, which makes this a good choice for Orthodox readers. Pre-school – age 5. This book takes a concept that perplexes adults and makes it easy for children to understand. After reviewing concepts that Mrs. Goetz mentions that are invisible yet still exist, my daughter asked me, “Is a year invisible?” Yes sweetheart, time is invisible and I seem to be learning a few new things from unexpected sources.

  4. Bibliophilic

Has your child ever asked, “If G-d exists, why can’t I see Him?” This book thoroughly explains the concept in a playful and meaningful way. The illustrations are attractive and make children smile. This is one of my favorite gifts for a child of three, and would also be suitable in the preschool setting.

A beautiful and really well thought out book!
This is a brilliant book! It teaches children that just because we can’t see things doesn’t mean they don’t exist and thereby teaching children about G-d. The book uses many examples that children understand like we can’t see air and we can’t see gravity, but we know they exist. This is a Jewish book (appropriate for Jewish and Noahide households), but I would say also appropriate for other faiths too. There are a few Hebrew words used like mitzvot (commandments/good deeds); neshama (human soul) and Hashem (G-d).The illustrations are delightful and the pages are laminated (as are a lot of books published by HaChai – thank you!) so little sticky fingers won’t mark the pages and excited little hands won’t rip the pages when turned too fast.My 4 year old son loves this book. I think it would be best suited to ages 3-6.Highly recommended!
