Description
Rabbi Noach Heller was very happy being the rabbi of the remote Canadian village of Port Iceberg. It gave him the opportunity to learn and teach Torah while providing his family with a simple but adequate livelihood. But then everything changed, and the Heller family was thrown into turmoil.
Chaimkel the Dreamer is the wonderfully funny and heartwarming story of the trials and tribulations of the Heller family as they move to Toronto and try to make a living operating a small Jewish bookstore. In particular, it is the story of young Chaimkel Heller, a boy blessed with boundless imagination, who is constantly trying to help his father, with some rather unusual results.
Enter the magical world of Chaimkel’s imagination, and discover a flying beis that can carry you high into the sky, nine ghostly men doomed to wait forever for a tenth man to make a minyan, a mountain of shaimos that threatens to engulf a good part of Toronto, a group of choosy esrogim carefully selecting their owners before Sukkos and many, many more.
Parents and educators will also be gratified to find the pages of this book thoroughly imbued with excellent hashkafos and Torah values. Chaimkel the Dreamer will educate the child even as it stimulates his imagination.

My childhood favourite. I now have the privilege for my own children to enjoy this award winning book. Loved it to the very last page. My favourite chapter is when the esrogim get to choose their best person. Who could forget Shaimos Mountain and getting kicked out of Port Iceberg.

great book for kids and their parents! depicting warm family life, humorous tales and conveying positive jewish values. Chaimkel and his family face various obstacles as they try to make ethical choices while trying to make ends meet. Often, it’s Chaimkel’s dreams that no one would believe could be true, that save the day!
